Sabayon – Bye Bye Pro-Edition
Well it’s been a long time coming and the decision was made to drop the Pro-Edition of Sabayon Linux. Dark-Mage is busy with school and career, so you can’t blame him for putting priorities first. He will be missed for his talents and always was easy to talk to.
Having a stable version of Sabayon Linux was a great idea and was requested often. A big problem was that too many people didn’t understand how Gentoo branches work. They see the word Professional and think automatically it’s for them than wonder where all the glamor is and causes confusion for many. The Profession Edition was based on the stable branch of Gentoo vs. the Standard Edition based on the testing branch.
As of right now, I have 3 installs of the Professional Edition and have to say they are rock solid. I even use the 64 bit edition for gaming. The stable branch will cause less headaches than testing branch. Unfortunately without devs, things can’t continue and end up dropped.
Sabayon Linux is looking for developers and you can join the irc channel on freenode, room #Sabayon to inquire. Package maintainers are also needed to work with ebuilds in the Sabayon overlay. Any interest in helping is welcomed.
